Congratulations to Deb Santee, Rob Wegner, and John Voit on their victory in the Karl Ray Lanes October Trios Tournament sponsored by The Coliseum Sports Bar and Grill.
Turnout was a little down with so many factors contributing to that, including the amazing Brewers game 5 and the beautiful weather outside. Despite that, everyone had a great time and the place exploded when Tony Plush drove in the winning run in the bottom of the 10th.
Taking notes from T Plush, Rob Wegner, with ice in his veins (and a little bit of Busch Light), also went Beast Mode in the bottom of the 10th. Needing a strike on the final ball in the 10th frame to secure a victory for his team, Rob came up strong and drove home the winning shot to secure the championship for his team. They defeated the team of Carey Slater, Ryan Babler, and Mike Thill 2-1 in the best of 3 games finals.
In the semi-finals, the top seeded team of Santee, Wegner, and Voit swept Jon Kollmann, Kevin Zitlow, and Steve Bonilla 2-0 and Slater, Babler, and Thill also came up with the 2 game sweep against Chris Holbus, Nate Haug, and Steve Smith.
We had 12 teams lace up their shoes and we cut down to the top 4 teams for matchplay, and paid out the top 6 spots. We were able to pay out nearly $1,200 to the top teams and top individuals, thanks in part to the Coliseum. The top 6 qualifying teams were as follows:
1. Deb Santee, Rob Wegner, John Voit: 2114
2. Carey Slater, Ryan Babler, Mike Thill: 2027
3. Chris Holbus, Nate Haug, Steve Smith:2019
4. Jon Kollmann, Kevin Zitlow, Steve Bonilla: 2004
5. Kevin Schultz, Wayne Schultz, Jared Ahearn: 1961
6. Steve Tobey, Arnie Rost, Dave Wolf: 1950
First Round of Matchplay (Baker-alternate ball format; best 2 out of 3 games):
Santee, Wegner, Voit defeated Kollmann, Zitlow, Bonilla
Slater, Babler, Thill defeated Holbus, Haug, Smith
Finals:
Santee, Wegner, Voit defeated Slater, Babler, Thill
We also paid out for the top 3 handicap series and the top 2 scratch series. Winners of those prizes were as follows:
Handicap Series:
Chris Holbus: 752
Pat Tobin: 736
Rob Wegner: 731
Scratch Series:
Chris Holbus: 698
Mike Thill: 692
We also began the evening by drawing two names at random. Those two bowlers, Brian Miller and Steve Smith stepped up to the lanes with a chance to win their entry fee back. If each bowler struck, they won their $30 entry. For each pin left, $5 was knocked off. Brian stepped up first, leaving a ringing 7 pin to win $25. Steve Smith then stepped up and came high, still leaving a 9 count and also walked away with $25.
Finally, we raffled off the donations, including hats, t-shirts, a Packers flag, beer bottle koozies, and other miscellaneous merchandise from the distributors. Everyone who participated in the tournament was put in a drawing for the merchandise and we randomly drew names throughout the night, giving everything away. The top prize was a Miller High Life lighted sign and we drew for that following matchplay. This was won by Linda Bard, and I think Greg already had big plans for the sign.
Once again, thank you to everyone who made this tournament a success! This includes the Coliseum for their sponsorship and the staff at Karl Ray Lanes for hosting us. The next one will be on Friday, November 4 at 6:30 and will be a doubles tournament. Entry forms will be out within the next couple weeks, but you can sign up now by shooting me a message on Facebook, via text at 920-602-0563, or finding me at the lanes.
